If you are superstitious, you probably shouldn’t be in sales.

But now that I got you reading this morning, let’s talk about what yesterday’s Super Bowl winner’s, the Indianapolis Colts have to do with your sales this year.

You see there is a legend that the team that wins the Super Bowl shows us whether the stock market will be up or down for the year.

Now you may not be selling stocks, but that’s OK. Some people use the market as an indicator of where business and the economy is going this year.

So the legend goes that if a team from the old NFL wins, we will have an up year. And if a team from the old AFL wins, we will have a down year.

Simple enough right?

So which team in Super Bowl XLI was a former NFL team?

Turns out both the Bears and the Colts are from the old NFL.

Yep, the Indianapolis Colts who won Super Bowl XLI were originally an NFL team, just as were the Bears. When the AFL merger with the NFL, the Colts got moved into the new AFC.

So with the Colts winning this year’s Super Bowl, what does that mean?

Since both teams were originally NFL teams, then this could mean that we are in for an up year, market and business-wise.

This legend has an 80% success rate in picking the direction of the market for the year.

Or this maybe since the Colts switched to the AFC, this means we are in for a down year.

Or maybe all of this just doesn’t matter.

I mean whether you are selling shares, computers, cars, or whatever, how much does what happens to the market or the economy matter to you?

The answer is that it shouldn’t matter at all.

You don’t have any control over these things.

The state of the market or economy only matter if you let them matter to you.

Whether business "overall" is up or down is irrelevant.

What matters is what you do.

What matters are the decisions you make.

To have a great year in 2007, you need to make sure that you have picked a good company to work for, that you are selling a good product, that you have a good local territory to sell into, and that you have good selling skills to make the most of your situation.

All of these things are decisions, choices, actions that you have control over.

Make good choices and you will have a good year. Make great choices and you will have a great year. Make poor choices and you will have an awful year.

I can’t help you pick which company to work for, tell you if your selling the right product, or negotiate a better territory for you.

But I can help you make the most of you selling skills. So hustle your tail on over right now and pick up your copy of the Persuasive Selling Skills Audio Program. You do have control over your sales abilities, and you can make them better. Do it now.
